Idina Menzel Heading Back to Glee
Posted in Glee, Guest Stars, News by Ben at July 19th, 2011 • No Comments »

Now we’re talking! While I’m not of the mindset that more guest-star appearances is what Fox’s Glee needs in order to tap into its true potential and maybe get the show back up to what it was in Season 1, I’m willing to make a very big exception when it comes to certain people and Idina Menzel is definitely on that list.

I never got to see Menzel in Rent, but I’ve listened to her belt out Maureen’s songs on the soundtrack more times than I care to admit, and I did get to see her in Wicked. She’s fabulous, but if you know who she is, you probably already know that.

My Broadway-geeking aside, Menzel played a fairly crucial role in Season 1 of Glee. Not only was she the determined leader of New Directions biggest rival, Vocal Adrenaline, but she also turned out to be Rachel’s biological mother. She went on to adopt Quinn and Puck’s baby, after which, she drifted off into the sunset, while Puck and Quinn returned to normality as though the baby never existed. It seems that story may be coming back when Season 3 returns.

According to Deadline, Menzel’s in the final stages of negotiations to return to the Fox musical-dramedy. What’s more, her character Shelby may be returning for a major arc, appearing in as many as a dozen episodes from the season. While Deadline mentions no specifics on whether or not Quinn and Puck’s baby will play a role in the show, the site does state that Shelby’s presence complicates things for Rachel, as well as for Will, who sort of had a thing with Shelby.

Glee To Release First Live Album
Posted in Glee, News by Ben at July 19th, 2011 • No Comments »

“Glee” has already charted with a dozen albums and EPs, and now they’re set to release their very first live album: the companion soundtrack to their upcoming “Glee” 3D concert film.

“Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” soundtrack features the cast performing some fan favorites and some of their own biggest hits, including the original song “Loser Like Me,” their cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and their version of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”

The Dalton Academy Warblers also appear here, offering up their hit versions of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” and Paul McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs.”

Covers of tracks by Britney Spears, the Beatles, Katy Perry, Michael Jackson, Cee Lo Green, and Barbra Streisand are also included. A version of Florence + The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” is included as a bonus track, for some reason.

The soundtrack hits stores on Aug. 9, while fans can catch “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” in theaters beginning Aug. 12 for a limited two-week engagement.

Glee premieres its third season on Fox on Sept. 20.

Billboard Magazine Profiles Madonna Album
Posted in News, Reviews by Shirlz at April 30th, 2010 • No Comments »

Next week, Billboard Magazine hits stands, and our very own Glee cast are on the cover!

t’s all about “The Power of Madonna” this week on the Billboard 200, where the soundtrack from last week’s Madonna-themed episode of Fox TV’s “Glee” debuts at No. 1 with 98,000 copies sold. Billboard’s current issue finds out just how Glee has made a fan in Madonna and taken over the rest of America with its hit show and chart topping music. “I was in the crowd at ‘Oprah’ and I thought I was at a Jonas Brothers concert,” says Adam Anders, producer of songs featured on “Glee” as well as the soundtracks. “There was just so much screaming – and they were all adults. It was pandemonium. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like when kids are there.”

The story also talks about Billboard’s upcoming “Glee Live! In Concert!” tour that will travel for two weeks and hit Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. “I remember I talked to [executive producer] Dante Di Loreto and [co-creator] Ryan Murphy and said, ‘If all works well, we should see records in the top 10 and we should sell albums. And if all that works, we should do a tour,’” says Geoff Bywater, head of the music department at 20th Century Fox Television.

Some impressive stats of the show included in the story are:
· Glee’s “Power of Madonna” episode attracted 13.5 million viewers

· Lea Michele’s performance of “Like a Prayer” sold 87,000 downloads

· Glee’s first soundtrack sold 799,000, the second soundtrack sold 594,000 downloads

· The “Glee Live! In Concert!” tour sold out in 30 seconds in LA after sales went live

Be sure to buy the magazine next week!

Glee to Attend White House!
Posted in Glee, News by Shirlz at February 23rd, 2010 • No Comments »

It has been revealed by various sources that our very own Glee cast will be performing at the Easter Egg Roll…IN THE WHITE HOUSE! EW’s Michael Ausiello has exclusively reported the following:

Being the president’s wife apparently has its perks.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that First Lady Michelle Obama has invited the cast of Glee to perform at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 5 — and, barring any last-minute glitches, they’re gonna do it!

Rumor has it Mrs. O and her daughters are big fans of the show. And since a White House gig is an offer that’s pretty darn hard to refuse, Glee’s producers did some lickety-split schedule rejiggering in order to honor the request.

All in all, not a bad stretch for the Glee club: Glee The Music Volume 1 just debuted at No. 1 on the UK album charts, ahead of the ubiquitous Lady Gaga!

What do you think, folks? Do you already have your trip to D.C. booked? Are you salivating at the prospect of a Puck/Michelle Obama photo op? Sound off below!

This is great for the Glee cast! It’s very rare for a show to have this much of an impact, but Glee has, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Midweek chart data has come out, and the Glee cast are doing very well!

The Glee cast have no fewer than four entries in the top 40: ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ rounds off the top five; ‘Halo’ / ‘Walking On Sunshine’ is a couple of places outside the top ten; ‘It’s My Life’ / ‘Confessions Part II’ is just inside the top 20 and ‘Somebody To Love’ finds itself between the 25 and 30 posts.

Ausiello: A male Mercedes
Posted in News by Ben at January 29th, 2010 • No Comments »

Earlier this month, Glee creator Ryan Murphy gave me the scoop on two of the three new characters he’s planning to add to the cast in season 2. To recap, those roles are an Eve Harrington-esque rival for Rachel and a gay jock-slash-boyfriend for Kurt.

Well, the time has come for me to exclusively reveal the identity of the third and final Glee newbie…

“The third role is an R&B-singing teen,” Murphy tells me. “A male Mercedes!”

When asked whether the counterparts would duet, ahem, outside the choir room, Murphy teased, “Perhaps.”

Translation: Kurt isn’t the *n** seemingly celibate **ee *h*r***e* **tt*** * *o** i******t *e*t *e****!

As previously reported, Murphy and Co. are launching a nationwide casting call next month to fill all three roles.

Thoughts on Rookie No. 3?
